Community One Initiative
In 2018 an Anonymous donor made a gift to the Temple Beth Shalom of Vero Beach Foundation, Inc., restricted for Holocaust Education programs. This laid the foundation for what would become Community One Initiative.
As a non-profit extension of the Foundation, Community One Initiative provides programs to our Indian River County public schools, in accordance with Florida statutes, to educate Elementary, Middle and High School students on the History of the Holocaust, the causes and consequences of prejudice, racism, stereotyping, and antisemitism and stresses the importance of tolerance, democratic values, and responsible citizenship. When possible, we also engage with other private schools and the larger community through various exhibits and performances.
The Holocaust reminds us of the importance of protecting human rights and the value of every person. By working with community partners, we make these lessons accessible and relevant across generations. Through programs, performances, classroom resources, book access, and more, we offer opportunities to learn, reflect, and take part in creating a community that values respect, inclusion, and justice.
During the 2025-26 school year Community One Initiative impacted over 3,275 students in Indian River County across 13 elementary schools, 6 middle schools and 2 high schools.
