Your TBS Sisterhood is So Much more than just a group of women who gather for events and programs. I do not minimize the importance of and enjoyment that these programs provide. Last month Jayne Drucker hosted the Sisterhood Membership Tea in her lovely home which was incredibly well attended and enjoyed by one of the largest groups ever! Our generous members provided an assortment of delectable treats. Cantor Dannah Rubinstein installed the Sisterhood board for 2014/2015. It was an enormously successful event and our ladies in attendance all had a lovely afternoon!
Many months I ask the women of TBS to Please join Sisterhood. Many of our members are not active participants but they choose to support us by joining and I thank them. And to those women (and the many men who assist us) who are able to participate and/or volunteer their time I sincerely thank each and every one of you. This month I want to share with you some of the ways Your Dues are utilized as well as the proceeds from our fundraising activities. The Rummage Sale is a labor intensive event and thanks to Lynn and Ralph Oko as well as the Many men and women who offer their assistance, merchandise is collected year round. In conjunction with the rummage sale is Jewelry which is led by Natalie Feldman & Evelyn Blank. Your contributions of merchandise make this a success year after year! This event brings in the Largest amount of money each year. Next is the Mah Jongg Tournament which was under the leadership of Anita Weiss & Jayne Drucker last year. There are donations from our members, gift shop sales and it bears repeating Dues which all serve in our ultimate goal to assist TBS and the Religious school. Last year Sisterhood donated $10,000 toward the religious school playground project. Sisterhood coordinates the entire Break the Fast and pays for half. Sisterhood provides two challot, coffee, sugar & creamer and a server to set up and cleanup for Shabbat onegs. Sisterhood coordinates the
Congregational Seder and a Women’s Seder and purchases the wine and seder plate items. We provide gift sets of ‘The Jewish Book of Why’ to all B’nai Mitzvah students. A gift shop (under the direction of Anita Weiss) is maintained for the convenience of our congregants and community. This July 2014, Sisterhood donated $10,000 toward the replacement of the flat roof over the religious school. Almost every member of our congregation has derived some benefit from Sisterhood and Sisterhood is delighted to be of service! Thank you to each and every member and our numerous volunteers who have made our contributions to TBS possible! Thank you all for the diversity of ways in which you have shown your support.
