In April, Sisterhood organized the Community Seder at Pointe West with Linda Culver as chairperson. Linda worked closely with the event manager and the chef at Pointe West to make sure that the menu was a success. Linda also saw to all of the details required for the seder. Thank you Linda for taking on this responsibility. Rabbi Michael Birnholz and Cantor Dannah Rubinstein led the seder with participation from all of the attendees. It was a joyous, multigenerational celebration.

An update to Rummage Sale and Jewelry Sale: I want each and every participant to know that their efforts contributed to both the triumph and the bottom line which was a profit of over $5000. For rummage (after expenses) and a profit of over $2900 for jewelry. This is an outstanding accomplishment and Sisterhood thanks EVERYONE involved!

All programs in March were a rousing success! The Mah Jongg Tournament was another successful fundraiser with sincere gratitude to Jayne Drucker, Chairperson who oversaw every detail to insure that the 72 participants had a fabulous day. Jayne was assisted by Anita Weiss, co-chair as well as many volunteers. This event brought in approximately $2222.!!  Sisterhood’s next program was our 6th Annual Women’s Seder!! The enthusiasm and participation for this event has grown over the years and has become a treasured evening. Cantor Dannah Rubinstein lovingly leads the seder and all of the women have an opportunity to participate in the readings and join her in song. Cindy Goldman, Chairperson coordinated every aspect of the evening and was assisted by Judith Sharpe Levy co-chair and additional volunteers. There was an incredible array of delicious Passover dishes that were generously donated by the women in attendance. Sisterhood thanks you All! In this day and age of limited time, multiple commitments and occasionally an ailing body, I want to thank each and every member of Sisterhood for their involvement. It is not always easy, but this group not only gets things done, but they are done well. And to those whose participation is not ‘active’, thank you for your support. Every Sisterhood member makes a difference here at Temple Beth Shalom!

On April 17 during Shabbat service, Women of the Wall speaker Cheryl Temkin joined us for her presentation on pluralism and WOW. The mission of WOW is to achieve the social and legal recognition of a woman’s right to wear tallit, pray and read from the Torah collectively and out loud at the Western Wall in Israel. Cheryl’s presentation gave us insight into a very complex issue.
