July 2015 Simply Sisterhood

PRESIDENT’S MESSAGE

I look out the window as I type and see the sun shining and the foliage is brilliant green.  I contemplate how fortunate I am to be living in Vero Beach and to be associated with our Sisterhood’s loving, caring group of women.  In that spirit, I would like to express my gratitude and appreciation to our outgoing President, Charlene David.  Charlene, with her customary level-headed wisdom, has led Sisterhood for the past two years with grace and composure.

It is my pleasure to welcome to NEW Board members, Vice President Maxyne Trompeter, Committee Chairs:  Charlene David/ Webmaster, Ellen Deschatres/ Gift Shop, Carol Resnick/ Membership, Bobbi Feiertag/ Program and Events, and Marilyn Myers/ Simply Sisterhood and Communications.

The High Holidays are on our horizon.  Carol Resnick and her committee are already hard at work planning the Congregational Break the Fast, following services on September 23, 2015. Feel free to contact Carol if you would like to assist.

Beginning 4:00 p.m., Tuesday October 20th, we will offer a new quarterly program, Candid Conversations.  This women-centered group discussion will focus on emotional and spiritual issues that we, as Jewish women, deal with every day.  The first topic of discussion will be integrity.  Stay tuned for further information.  Finally, look for some exciting changes in appearance of our gift shop.  A big round of applause goes to Ellen Deschatres for her hard work on this venture.

Feel free to telephone or email if you have any questions, concerns or would simply like to talk — I would love to hear from you

Break the Fast

BREAK THE FAST will be on Wednesday, September 23rd this year.  As you know, it takes lots of helping hands to make this event happen, from dressing the tables the day before to preparing the platters and food the morning of the event.  Please consider volunteering for (1) table prepping or (2) food prepping (9/23 morning or afternoon.  Please send me an email and let me know what activity interests you. I’ll send you the specific details and you can decide whether or not you want to sign on. The email subject is BREAK THE FAST – volunteer and should be sent to Carol Resnick at resnickcf@bellsouth.net.

We also need volunteers to bring food for our hungry congregants and specifics will be in the September Simply Sisterhood

Bayit Boutigue and Resource Center

Specializing in gifts and ritual artifacts that enrich Jewish life in our community

I would like to introduce myself. I am Ellen Deschartres, the new manager of our Sisterhood gift shop.  I want to thank Anita Weiss

who helped me during the transition. We greatly appreciate all the work and time she has put in over the years! Bravo, Anita!

I’ve met with our wonderful Board members, who have given me the “green light” to make some new and exciting changes.  One of the most important changes we’ve made is to change the name and scope of our boutique to The Bayit Boutique and Resource Center of Temple Beth Shalom Sisterhood of Vero Beach. At least that’s the official name. We’ll be referring to it here in future updates as The Bayit Boutique.

One of the most important things we can do here is not only to reach out to our own membership, but to the non-Jewish community, as well.

We’ll be open BY APPOINTMENT ONLY this summer, for a variety of reasons, so don’t hesitate to call me directly to meet you at the Bayit Boutique. I’ll be happy to do it!

Please call me to come in and see the gorgeous new glass Star of David necklaces. Priced at an unbelievable $12 each, they look like so much more. Even before I could unpack them, four were sold!!!
