On Sunday, February 28, the Temple Beth Shalom Youth Group, the Shalom Society of Synagogue Youth (SaSSY) will participate in a bowl-athon with the youth group from Temple Beit Hayam in Stuart. The purpose of this gathering is to raise funds for the North American Federation of Temple Youth’s South Tropical Region’s charitable activity, Camp Jenny. Camp Jenny is a three day camp held over Memorial Day Weekend at URJ Camp Coleman in Georgia. The campers are children from low socio-economic backgrounds in Atlanta who have worked hard at school and home to go to Camp Jenny. The cost of Camp Jenny for these campers is completely free. However, this means its ability to run solely relies on charitable donations. Our bowl-athon is an attempt to raise funds for Camp Jenny.
The bowl-athon will be organized in a match play set up. Our TBS SaSSy Team will consist of groups of two competing against pairs from Beit Hayam with the greater aggregate score determining the winner. For each match won, that respective youth group will earn a point. Sponsorship could include pledging a certain donation for every point TBS garners (we should win anywhere from 4-7). However, sponsorship could also include one flat-rate pledge in honor of Sassy’s participation. The Rabbi’s Discretionary Fund will match sponsorship donations up to $500! Not only will TBS come out on top against Beit Hayam, but thanks to your kind sponsorship, so will Camp Jenny.
