PRESIDENT’S MESSAGE

The secular New Year has arrived (not ours, yet ours)! Ours is celebrated in the fall. I’ve been thinking recently about the
difference between secular New Year’s resolutions and the ones we make during
Rosh Hashanah and I think it comes down to this: on the secular New Year we make promises to ourselves but during Rosh
Hashanah our resolutions, or promises, are to
G-d.

Here is the problem: no matter who we make these promises to, distractions and temptations get in our way thus dooming us
to failure. But let’s not get too self-critical,
the fact is that most people allow these resolutions to fall by the wayside soon after making them!

Our most popular secular resolutions
include losing weight, getting organized,
spending less/saving more, enjoying life to the fullest, and staying fit and healthy. Here are some suggested New Year’s Resolutions from your Sisterhood President:
1. Cheerfully volunteer when asked;
2. Pay membership dues on time;
3. Support Sisterhood events;
4. Set up and donate items for the rummage
sale;
5. Hold a mini-mahjong tournament;
6. Support our gift shop;
7. Be kind to our fellow Sisters.
Perhaps these are more in the nature of a wish list than actual resolutions. Let’s see if we can keep these more faithfully.

That being said, I WILL lose weight, get organized, spend less, exercise more and continue to enjoy life to its fullest!

Please join us Friday night,
January 29, 2016, at Sisterhood Shabbat, planned by Joanne Maury
and her committee. Your Sisterhood Board will provide delicious treats following the service. With February brings Sisterhood’s Annual Rummage Sale, which takes place February 14
and 15, 2016. This event takes our entire “village” to set up, work and be
successful. Your work will be rewarded, though, as the money raised will benefit your sisterhood and the Temple. The rummage sale committee will be calling upon you for assistance. Ralph and Lynn Oko and Harold Levy have been busy collecting all year for this event. It’s not too late to donate!

I would be interested to hear some of your New Year’s resolutions. Please write me at weltman5050@gmail.com. And, Happy New Year!!

Shelley Weltman, President

Mah Jongg

We did it last year and we can do it again. We broke all records for Sisterhood’s Mah Jongg League Card Fundraiser.

It was a team effort including myself, Charlene David, Susan Coren and the Team “Captains” who solicited their various groups and subdivisions. Truly our Sisterhood is a community of people that care. I am truly in their debt for helping with this annual fundraiser.
The 2016 Mah Jongg Card Fund Raiser has begun. I am calling on you, once again, to make this year’s commission check from the National Mahjongg League even larger.

Small cards cost $8 and large cards are $9.

Send a check payable to TBS Sisterhood to Ruth Brown (below)
Include your address and telephone number as cards are mailed directly to you

If you have purchased cards in the past from a captain collecting in your
neighborhood for Temple Beth Shalom, feel free to do so again. Feel free to call me with any questions.

What is the Temple Beth Shalom Rummage Sale.

Last year TBS Sisterhood’s Rummage Sale earned over $8000 to benefit our Temple AND we want to do it again. We can do it with your help in donating merchandise for sale and in donating your time to help us prepare for the sale and work on sales days.

We happily accept just about anything for sale (except clothing, shoes, or really decrepit and non-functioning items.
